Arne Slot Insists He Feels Safe and Has The Club's Backing After PSV Defeat

The Liverpool head coach admitted that it's expected for concerns to be asked about his future after another convincing defeat versus PSV Eindhoven.

Liverpool suffered their ninth loss in 12 matches, marking the club's poorest run after being demoted in 1953-54.

They were dominated by the Dutch league title holders on a tough night at Anfield.

“I am feeling safe, I'm fine, I've received a lot of backing from management,” Slot stated.

“It would be great to reverse this trend and get a victory obviously but if you are coaching a team and struggling then it's expected that doubts arise.”

He added, “I'm comfortable with my position. It is not the initial instance I’ve been in a tough spot but it's necessary that we improved our results.”

Discussions with The Board

Upon being questioned to elaborate on his discussions with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot revealed:

“We communicate frequently. They assist for the squad and for me and we have those conversations but they aren't calling me all the time of the day to say they have faith in me.”

He further stated, “In the normal exchanges I sense the confidence. However I haven’t spoken to them after this match so far so we'll see.”

Persistent Failings and Squad Response

The manager expressed regret over recurring weaknesses from his squad in their Champions League loss, specifically missed opportunities and conceding too easily.

Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was blunter in his view of the current crisis.

“I don’t have the answers. Honestly, I don’t. I'm telling that to everybody,” Jones remarked.

“It is not good enough. I don't have to wait to consider it. I'm beyond feeling anger inside. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the words.”

He added, “It’s hard because I play for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I've watched this club all my life.”

“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team experiencing a period like this with results so bad.”

Jones concluded, “However we continue to wear that badge on our shirts. And until that badge is removed, we'll continue to fight.”

“We’re going to try to bring this squad back to the top, demonstrate to all again the values of this club and why people call it the greatest side in the planet.”

“At this moment, we’re in the shit and it needs to change.”
