The network's Premier New Show of 2025 Secures a Substantial Renewal for Two More Seasons.
Last October, the late-night programming block welcomed back its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, later that same month, the channel launched a fresh animated series with a distinctly unique feel. Haha, You Clowns proved to be sweet and soothing, evoking a animated take of a serene talk show. At a time often characterized by dark humor, this show's sincerity found an audience and propelled it a surprise hit.
A Major Commitment
On December 18th, Adult Swim made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two more seasons. This provides showrunner Joe Cappa a massive runway to develop the world of the Campbell family. The series follows three well-mannered teenage brothers whose primary trait is their deep love for their single father, with Cappa portraying for all four main characters.
"I’m so grateful to the viewers of the show who took a chance on the show and shared it with others," said Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."
Executive Acclaim
In the same announcement commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and uniquely eerie." He shouted out the fans who found the show and championed its uniquely offbeat sensibility.
"All of you got behind this new show, championed for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Wholesome Alternative
When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a gentle counterpart" to more cynical adult animated fare. Viewers found something surprisingly comfy about watching this charming family navigate their simple existence.
Previously, creator Joe Cappa stated his desire to move the comedy genre beyond its current sarcastic tone. He linked this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.
“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” noted Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we just have to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”
Future Seasons
Now, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa has the opportunity to catalyze that comedic shift. If nothing else, the renewal promises audiences additional episodes to experience the warm glow of the unique Campbell clan.
The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The entire series is available for streaming on HBO Max.
